Gareth is an Urban Designer with 5 years experience in both the public sector and private consultancy. He is the Principal Urban Design Advisor at TfL, following a secondment with TfL's Urban Design team from Taylor Young.  Gareth originally studied Engineering gaining an MEng from Cambridge University focusing on product design and beginning his working life at Mars Inc before diverting his skills to the design of the built environment and completing an MA in Urban Design at Oxford Brookes University.   
 
Gareth brings a broad range of skills to the team from his diverse experience in urban regeneration, town centre spatial and economic masterplans and sustainable urban extensions.  Gareth is both creative and technical with a passion for understanding how places work and the impact they can have on people's lives.  This interest led him to complete his Masters Thesis on the impact that the spatial layout of a place can have on enabling entrepreneurship amongst its users.  The project included spending 3 months with Space Syntax and was published in the Journal of Local Economics. 
 
At TfL Gareth works on a broad range of design related projects including River Crossings, the High Speed 2 station at Old Oak Common and TfL’s retail portfolio.
