Investigated user attitudes towards the public realm, finding that members of the public value high quality streets and are willing to pay for improvements. Conducted by Accent and Colin Buchanan.

Phase 2: "Seeing Issues Clearly", 2008
Examined the relationship between street quality and property value as well as the attitude of private stakeholders towards investing in improved quality. Found that there was a positive, significant and consistent value added to private business by maintaining and improving the public realm. Conducted by MVA Consultancy.

Phase 3: Valuing Urban Realm - Health and Social Benefits
Addresses the health and social benefits of public realm improvements, drawing primarily on existing research on the benefits of pedestrian-oriented environments.
Phase 4: Toolkit
The
TfL Urban Design Team released a special valuation toolkit for urban realm investment in December 2010. This was superceded by the
MKII Toolkit in April 2012.
